If you or someone you know is 16 to 75 years old and suffers from active kidney disease related to lupus, you may be eligible to participate in a new research study currently underway at approximately 60 medical facilities across the United States.
The LUNAR Study is a clinical research study for patients with lupus nephritis, the most common severe complication of lupus. The study will evaluate the effectiveness and safety of an investigational drug in lupus-related kidney disease.
Individuals participating in the LUNAR Study will be randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups. One group will receive the investigational drug plus mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), a medication often used in the treatment of lupus-related kidney disease. The second group will receive a placebo plus MMF. A placebo is a solution made of an inactive substance that looks like the study drug but does not contain any study drug.
All potential study participants will be assessed to determine whether or not they are eligible to participate in the LUNAR Study. This assessment ensures participants meet the criteria established to study the investigational drug’s safety and effectiveness.
