Chaz Berman and his wife, Brenda Canada, of Sausalito returned home around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday night, December 6th.  Chaz went into his home office to check his phone messages.  He called out for Brenda, and he seemed so excited she was concerned he might be having a heart attack.  He said “listen to this message, you won’t believe it!”  She did listen to the voice mail message and told Chaz to play it again. She listened to it three times before she finally believed it was legitimate. 

The message that was so hard to believe informed Chaz he was this year’s very lucky winner of a Mercedes C300.  The message was left jointly by Mark Akbar, Sales Manager of Smythe European, and Jo Dewhirst, the Executive Director of the LFNC. 

Neither Chaz or Brenda have ever won anything before.  Ironically, Chaz’s birthday was the Sunday following the Mercedes drawing. He commented, “It was a very nice start to a wonderful birthday weekend.”

“As part of my birthday celebration, we went to the local Mercedes dealer in San Rafael and sat in the model of the car we had won, just to get a feel for it. It is a gorgeous car—absolutely gorgeous.”

Chaz is the CEO of UCB Network, Inc., in San Francisco, and Brenda is a lupus patient and a homemaker. Brenda has been the contact person for the LFNC Marin County Lupus Support Group for the past several years.  She is noted for her terrific sense of humor.

Brenda commented, “I’ve been postponing cleaning out our garage because it isn’t my favorite chore.  Now I really will have to get it done to make room for the Mercedes C300.”
