One California: A New Chapter Begins—Will You Be Part of It?

On July 1, we officially began a bold and hopeful new chapter, one we couldn’t have reached without the strength of our community!! 
The Lupus Foundation of Northern California and the Lupus Foundation of Southern California have merged to become the California Lupus Foundation—a united organization serving all lupus patients and their loved ones across our vast and diverse state.  While it will take some time for our systems to be merged, we are working together daily. In the near future you will begin receiving emails from our new Californialupus.com domain.  Please keep an eye out for it!  This is both exciting and daunting. The need is great. The stories we hear from patients—from San Diego to Redding—are filled with resilience, but also with fear, pain, and isolation. They need education, support, advocacy, and care. And we are committed to being there for them.
We will continue to offer our programs and services which include:

• Free online health conferences that connect patients with experts and hope
• Peer support groups statewide
• Training for volunteer leaders and advocates
• Outreach to underserved communities who too often face lupus alone 

We are also excited to announce our first NEW PROGRAM!!  With a grant from the Socks Family for a one year pilot, we have hired a bi-lingual Lupus Patient Navigator, Tamara Grinberg. Tamara is a graduate student in Public Health At UC San Diego who will be committed to reducing patients’ barriers to care by identifying critical resources for patients, helping them navigate through healthcare services and systems, and promoting patient health.  To begin this program will be focused on patients in the San Diego area.  Tamara will work closely with the patients Care Team, which may include doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff, to achieve positive client health outcomes.  More details about this program will be available soon, so watch our website and social media.

Speaking of community, the Outrun Lupus 5K has been a community event in Northern California for over 30 years!   We are excited to announce that we will be hosting it virtually this year, so we can include all of California!  This will now be the California Lupus Foundation Outurn Lupus 5K and will take place during the month of September.  We hope you will grab some friends and join us to raise lupus awareness in your neighborhood!  You can find more information at Outrunlupus.org.  
We know this is a time of uncertainty in our country. But what remains crystal clear is this: lupus doesn’t wait. And neither can we.
