The 2020 Outrun Lupus 5K Mascot Winner is...Chiaroscuro! Meet Leslie Watts and her Argentine Black and White Tegu named Chiaroscuro! His name comes from the Italian word for light and dark since he is black and white. She entered him into this contest because her mom has lupus. Leslie's mom often gets painful flare ups and swelling in her legs. Her short term memory loss causes her to forget simple things. She even has a bit of hair loss too. Her mom’s name is Bridget Watts. She is the strongest, most powerful, and loving person Leslie knows. Leslie has four other siblings that her mother also raised into wonderful and caring adults. Leslie's mom is definitely a Superwoman!
Her little friend here brings her so much joy. Chiaroscuro is the most calm and sweet lizard ever! Leslie ordered him online back in 2016 and he came in the mail in a teeny weeny little box. There's a pic from when she first got him. He is for sure the family pet. Even all her friends love how easy going he is! Never has he ever bit anyone and he loves being held. Bridget and Leslie watch him crawl around and do his lizard thing all day. Bridget is a licensed in home child care provider, but since all this pandemic has occurred, she has been out of any clients. Clearly, she is in the compromised person category because of her lupus. But she is so strong. Leslie hoped her mom could see Chiaroscuro win and be the mascot! She loves him so much and Leslie thought it would be something that could brighten up her days amidst the world’s current darkness. Thank you to all the voters out there that helped make this wish come true! Chiaroscuro has earned his title as the official mascot of the Outrun Lupus 5k!
