Meet Rocky Road, the
2019 Outrun Lupus Mascot! This is Rocky Road and he is a 3 year old French Bulldog that came all the way from the Dominican Republic. Roadie came into our lives in 2016 as I began my journey to find out I have lupus and has been by my side through the whole experience. Rocky Road loves to run laps around the backyard, hide his toys all over the house and take long naps snoring as loud as he possibly can. Other than being the most adorable pup there is, he also is the most loving dog I could ever ask for through being diagnosed with lupus and then the treatment process. Whether it’s walking around the neighborhood to get fresh air, going for a ride, or watching TV on the couch, Rocky Road is sure to be by my side to make sure I’m not alone. Roadie has regained his title as the mascot of the Outrun Lupus 5k! Rocky Road

Meet our 2019 Honoree, Thu Vu
Thu was diagnosed with lupus at 11 years old. She began chemotherapy and high doses of prednisone causing her to quit swimming, aikido, and choir and not attend the last month of 5th grade, but she persisted on and attended the 6th grade through all the medical treatments. She found her passion in the Vietnamese instrument, dan tranh, and music in general with the free time lupus left her. Even though Thu faced many obstacles with lupus, she has been able to persevere through them with her strong spirit and determination and the support of her family, friends, and other lupus patients she has met along the way. Lupus has not stopped her from achieving her goals like obtaining a grant to be part of a dan tranh apprenticeship program, earning first place in an art competition, doing 2 internships in one summer, joining choir again, and traveling the world. For her high school senior project, she chose the topic of lupus where she was introduced to the Lupus Foundation of Northern California when seeking more resources to help with her research and testimony. She is awed and inspired by the work that the foundation does and how much they help the lupus community. In the fall, she continues to not let lupus stop her and will be attending the University of Portland for a nursing degree to pursue a career in the clinical research field and help others with lupus and others with illness. |

HOW TO GET THERE
The Outrun Lupus 5K will take place at Campbell Park, Campbell Ca.
The 5K course (3.1 miles) is a full lop beginning and ending in Campbell Park, near the Campbell Avenue entrance to the Los Gatos Creek Trail. The tree-lined course winds along the Los Gatos Creek with plenty of shade and sun, and a play area for families before and after the run. After crossing over the creek midway runners and walkers return on the opposite side of the creek, cross under Campbell Ave. and loop back to the main entrance and start line.
RACE DAY PARKING

AID STATIONS
There will be two water only aid stations on the course at Mile One and Mile Two.

BRING YOUR PUP!
Your dogs - whether or not they are part of the mascot contest - are welcome. However, please make sure dogs are on leash, that you clean up after them, and that they are well-behaved.

On-site donations are welcome, both individual and team. Visit the Donations table to drop off your on-site gifts. If you have collected donations and are bringing them on site, please use the donation collection form.
